Sierra Leone
Anti-Corruption Profile On 3rd February 2000 the Sierra Leone Government enacted the Anti-Corruption Act. This paved the way for the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which came into being on January 1, 2001. It was set up primarily to investigate alleged instances of corruption and to prevent corrupt practices. The Anti-Corruption Act 2008 repealed and replaced the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 with the aim of strengthening the ACC to most effectively execute its functions and mandates. The 2008 act gives prosecutorial powers to the ACC. The Commission’s three-pronged approach in the fight against corruption includes investigation, corruption prevention, and public education for attitudinal change. In order to carry out these functions, the Commission has established three operational departments: Systems and Process Review; Public Education and Outreach; and, Investigation and Prosecution.
